Yes, I am talking about the leading FPS game for, at least, five years running, Call of Duty. Let me just say up front that I played all the CoD titles up to Modern Warfare 2 and I loved them all, though quickly became bored of MW2. I did not play CoD3 as it was console only and for those of you that may not know, I am a PC player. I encourage all gamers to play whatever game they find to be fun. I don’t care if you play on console or PC. I think it is great that someone plays other game types than FPS.  This article is not to bash CoD, but to enforce what I was saying in my previous article about CoD vs Battlefield.

I tell you, there is nothing more fun than getting into a tank in Battlefield. I have been driving tanks in Battlefield since 1942. I even drove tanks in Call of Duty and they were just as much fun as in Battlefield. The destruction and power that you are given when driving one of these bad boys is just something else. Throwing fear into your enemy and watching infantry run and hide as they hear you coming in. Taking down engineers and C4 welding support (or recon in BF2/142) while rolling over vehicles is just great fun.

First, a congratulations to the Project Reality Team on 8 years of dedicated work to Project Reality, a Battlefield 2 mod. It will soon be out of beta and onto version 1.0. If play Battlefield 2 and would like to check this mod out you can see it here. It is a great mod with a lot of features and maps and they did a very good job bringing a more realistic approach to Battlefield.

Now back on topic…

So I was thinking about the lost blog writings at TGN and decided to see if Google still had them cached. Sure enough they have a few of them! So I decided to move these here. This was originally posted on May 16th, 2013. Enjoy!

So I suppose this is going to be another griping blog about the playing the f***ing objective crowd. My last blog entry was about how we do not use the teamwork that is in Battlefield 3 and yet I see all over the various forums and in-game people shouting PTFO PTFO PTFO like somehow, with the magic of Battlefield, that is going to FORCE (not suggest or ask) people to play a very specific way to meet the needs of others demanding to PTFO!

I understand that people want teamwork and that they want to be a cohesive unit and want to dominate the virtual battlefield that is Battlefield. Also, people want to win and get their points and awards and victory. The problem is, first, teamwork just doesn’t happen and that it has to be something done, and second that I see this PTFO mentality in the strangest ways. I want to give a few examples of when I see this PTFO:

– On small/not full servers: I’m talking a pub server that has about 16 players on it and everyone is being casual. Some people are doing stupid things and chatting in the chat box and just kinda waiting for the server to get more populated. Then some guy comes in and starts running around going on about how “This team sucks!” “PTFO” “Go this way and that way!” The atmosphere on the server is not PTFO. You have to convince half a server to change their mindset and start doing something they probably didn’t want to do to begin with. Just think about this scenario for a moment and I think you will fully get the problem with the PTFO mentality in this instance

With the information of Battlefield 4 on the way and the suggestion threads going rampant I noticed many “more teamwork for BF4” threads. As I read through the threats of how if DICE didn’t bring back that they were not going to buy BF4 and that Battlefield was dead and DICE wants small pox on all of us and our children.

This made me think of the teamwork features that are built into BF3 and how we (as a gamer society) actually don’t use the features we have in the current game. This bugged me so much that I put the following line in my profile:

“We say we want more teamwork things in Battlefield, but we don’t even use what teamwork there is in BF3.”
Sadly I find it to be true and a few commented that they agreed with the statement. The thing is that it was actually true in BF2 and 2142 as well. To sort of prove my point on this go to YouTube and re-watch the video “A Pwned Life” It was such a great skit because it had a lot of truth in it and you can substitute the classes for any of the other Battlefield games.

newcptain3_zps41e6b88cSo after the latest server crash at TGN and the long period of downtime, I got to missing the people and talking and the going-ons in the gaming world. There have been a few things I wanted to write a blog about and could not do so. After a few days of thinking about it I felt I had two choices; 1. Call it done and just float around on the internet as another lurker in forums and not really give my two cents worth or 2. Figure out how to get a blog up and get the show back on the road and get my opinionated ideas back on the internet.

I have had this WordPress account for some time and never really used it. I wanted to grab the CptainCrunch name and thought one day I would build it up and do some stuff. I guess that day has come. I wanted to make a more permanent home and, nothing against TGN, something a little more stable.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love TGN and all the people involved in the site. I was actually thinking a little more about this change about a month ago after I wrote about Commander being back in BF4. What triggered me thinking about this was that I wanted to post my BF2142 How-To video on being a Commander. A nostalgia piece locked in times of long ago. The problem was that it was a video on the Google system. For those that don’t know this, Google had its own video section before they bought YouTube. Then they decided to merge the two. Then they decided that was a load of crap and instead told everyone they had a period of time to merge it themselves before deleting everything on the Google side. Then they came out and said never mind, all is good and Google will merge it and your content will be there forever. Then all those videos disappeared. Lost forever in some shut down Google server I suppose. (more…)
